ProtonMail Bridge Not Working? Quick Fixes and Setup Troubleshooting

Proton Mail Bridge is a desktop application that allows you to integrate your end-to-end encrypted Proton Mail account with standard IMAP/SMTP email clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. It acts as a local server that decrypts incoming emails and encrypts outgoing emails right on your machine.

Please note that using Proton Mail Bridge requires a paid Proton premium plan and must run continuously in your computer’s background to sync your mail. Step 1: Download and Configure the Bridge App

Before opening your email client, you must install and log into the Bridge app to generate your local security credentials.

Download and install the Proton Mail Bridge installer for Windows, macOS, or Linux.

Open the Bridge app and log in with your primary Proton Mail credentials.

Locate the newly generated Bridge Password and configuration ports inside the app.

Crucial: Do not use your normal Proton Mail password in Outlook or Thunderbird; you must use this unique Bridge-generated password. Step 2: Configure Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird natively handles local certificates very well, making it a highly reliable client for Bridge.
